You are not alone! - Words we all want to hear at one point or another.
This month is Dementia Awareness Month. * 25,000 Australians under 65 years live with dementia * 413,000 Australians live with dementia * 1.2 million Australians provide care for someone with dementia * There is no cure, more research is needed. Please take the time to let those affected or caring for someone with dementia know they are not alone this month, and any month in the future. For support please call the National Dementia Hotline on 1800 100 500 R U OK? Day is dedicated to remind people to ask family, friends and colleagues the question, "R U OK?", in a meaningful way, because connecting regularly and meaningfully is one thing everyone can do to make a difference to anyone who might be struggling.
Suicide rates are increasing and checking in on friends, family, colleagues or a passerby can help to show no-one is on their own. Please call Lifeline on 13 11 14 or speak to someone you trust if you feel you are struggling. Wednesday the 4th of October be sure to get to the Moama Bowling Club not just for the weekly draw but to hear from some wonderful guest speakers about cancer screening. The evening kicks off at 7pm with a light supper provided.
Here at Echuca Moama Family Medical Practice we understand the impact on families and lives of serious illness and organ failure and feel that we are obligated to share the following information:
This week has been Donate Life week which focuses on making your decision count by joining the Australian Organ Donor Register at donatelife.gov.au More than 1400 Australians are waiting for life-saving or life-transforming transplant. If you are willing to one day save lives by becoming an organ and tissue donor, you need to register and discuss your decision with your family and friends. When tragedy happens it is so difficult to deal with all the emotions and loss. Did you know that nine in ten families agree to donation proceeding when the deceased is a registered organ donor. This drops to just 52% where the deceased was not registered and the family had no prior knowledge. So, have you considered organ donation? We encourage you to register your donation decision and to discuss your donation decision with your loved ones. |
